His first major venture, 's critically acclaimed but little watched , was cancelled after just two short mid-season runs. His next Fox sitcom, , was panned by the critics and lasted only one season. He also appeared several episodes of the critically-acclaimed as himself, notably the episode where, in addition to himself, he appears as three of his identical quintuplet brothers (the fifth has his face blurred out because he "would not sign a release", a joke related to the faux-documentary style of the show). In the CBS series, , Richter guest starred as Stan the "Sad Dad." His most recent television role was in , which was co-written and executive produced by . He also appeared in a single episode as a family in the and provided his voice in an episode of 's .
